Kurt Angle announced on the March 11 episode of WWE Raw that he plans to have a ‘farewell match’ at WrestleMania 35. It remains unclear who the 50-year-old Hall of Famer will face on April 7 but the current favourite appears to be John Cena. Assuming that is the case, here are five Superstars who WWE should consider as possible opponents for Angle on Raw before he brings an end to his in-ring career with the company…
#5 Chad Gable
Current situation: Chad Gable has been a tag team wrestler for 90 percent of his time on the main roster — first with Jason Jordan, then Shelton Benjamin, and now Bobby Roode. Gable has been tearing the house down on live events with Roode against The Revival but the duo look set to move out of the title picture following their loss against Aleister Black & Ricochet this week.
One-on-one history: Plenty of fans predicted in 2017 that Gable would be part of the Kurt Angle ‘secret’ storyline. In the end, Jason Jordan was revealed as the Hall of Famer’s ‘son’ and Gable lost his tag partner. To this day, the two former Olympians have never faced each other in an official match.
Possible match: Angle faced another mid-card performer, Apollo Crews, in one of his final WWE matches on the most recent episode of Raw. Gable is in a similar position to Crews, with both men having been described as “underrated” for far too long, so perhaps a match with the former American Alpha member could still happen.
