WWE just finished another episode of Raw, but the big news following the show is that Dean Ambrose is reportedly set to leave the company after WrestleMania 35.
The former Shield member has rejected a new contract, according to PWTorch’s Wade Keller, and he informed WWE management over the weekend that he plans to leave when his deal expires in April.
Keller also reported that Ambrose has “long been frustrated with the creative direction of his character”.
With that in mind, let’s take a look at seven of the biggest booking mistakes that WWE has made with the former WWE champion since his main-roster debut in November 2012…
#7 ‘Third member’ of The Shield (2014)
It was clear as soon as The Shield split up in June 2014 that WWE viewed Dean Ambrose as the ‘third member’ of the popular faction.
Roman Reigns kept the Shield music, attire and the “believe that” catchphrase, instantly making him out to be “The Guy” in the group, while Seth Rollins aligned with The Authority and won the Money In The Bank contract.
Ambrose, meanwhile, was receiving babyface crowd reactions so loud that he was being compared to “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, yet he was not given the same opportunities as his fellow Shield members.
The first major sign of this came at Royal Rumble 2015 when Reigns won the Rumble and Rollins produced one of his greatest career performances in a Triple Threat WWE Championship match against John Cena and Brock Lesnar. Ambrose? He lasted 10 minutes in the Rumble.
