One of the biggest moments from the November 5 episode of WWE Raw came when AOP defeated Seth Rollins in a handicap match to win the Raw tag titles.
The monstrous Akam and Rezar were among the top tag teams in NXT during their time with the ‘developmental’ brand, and their success has finally transitioned to the main roster seven months on from their debut on Raw.
NXT’s part in the Women’s Evolution is regularly praised by fans and it often goes unnoticed that the brand’s tag division has been on fire over the last three years.
However, while the likes of AOP have gone on to win titles in WWE, other notable NXT tag teams, including The Revival and The Ascension, have struggled to make their mark on the main roster.
In this article, let’s take a look at the nine former NXT Tag Team champions who have won main-roster titles following call-ups to Raw, SmackDown Live and/or 205 Live.
#4 Singles titles: Kalisto, Neville & Buddy Murphy
Unlike the other selections on this list, these three guys have only won singles titles — not tag titles — on the main roster.
Kalisto is the most decorated of the three, winning the United States Championship on two occasions and the Cruiserweight Championship one time, but his Lucha Dragons alliance with Sin Cara never really worked following their time in NXT.
Neville was a two-time NXT Tag Team champion with Oliver Grey and Corey Graves, while he remains the longest-reigning Cruiserweight champion (232 days) since the title was reintroduced in 2016.
As for Buddy Murphy, he won Tag Team gold in NXT with Wesley Blake and he recently won the Cruiserweight Championship against Cedric Alexander in front of his hometown fans in Melbourne, Australia at Super Show-Down.
