The latest episode of WWE SmackDown Live took place in Dayton, Ohio on Tuesday, March 12. Shane McMahon vs. The Miz was confirmed for WrestleMania 35, while Randy Orton and AJ Styles were involved in one of the best promo battles of the year so far. Let’s take a look at five Superstars who gained/lost momentum during the show…
#5 Lost: Asuka
With the Intercontinental and United States Championships becoming pass-the-parcel titles in recent months, it’s pretty clear that WWE has four top titles on the main roster nowadays: the Universal Championship, the WWE Championship, the Raw Women’s Championship and the SmackDown Women’s Championship.
Three of those titles have prominent storylines heading into WrestleMania (Brock Lesnar vs. Seth Rollins, Daniel Bryan vs. Kofi Kingston and Ronda Rousey vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Becky Lynch), but the story involving Asuka and her SmackDown Women’s Championship ahead of this year’s “Show of Shows” is almost non-existent.
She defeated Mandy Rose in a title match on Sunday and Sonya Deville in a non-title match on Tuesday, but the story was less about her and more about Rose and Deville. Let’s hope “The Empress of Tomorrow” can rebuild some momentum — and, more importantly, find a challenger — before April 7.
