WWE Fastlane, the final pay-per-view before WrestleMania 35, took place in Cleveland, Ohio on Sunday, March 10. Nine matches were featured on the stacked card, including Daniel Bryan vs. Kevin Owens vs. Mustafa Ali and Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair, while The Shield faced Baron Corbin, Bobby Lashley & Drew McIntyre in the main event. Here is a recap of what happened on the show…

Match 1 (kickoff show): Shinsuke Nakamura & Rusev vs. Big E & Xavier Woods

Background: Shinsuke Nakamura & Rusev attacked Aleister Black & Ricochet on the latest episode of SmackDown Live. It was later announced that Big E & Xavier Woods, who have spent most of the last month supporting Kofi Kingston, will face the villainous duo on the Fastlane kickoff show.

Summary: Kingston was not ringside for the match, as he was summoned to the McMahon office to discuss the WWE Championship. Once the match began, Nakamura & Rusev were in control during the early stages before Big E tagged in and turned things around against Nakamura. Lana pushed Woods from the top rope at one stage, allowing Nakamura & Rusev to gain momentum. In the end, Big E took out Nakamura at ringside and pinned Rusev after an Up Up Down Down double-team with Woods.

Verdict: This match took a while to get going, which is fair enough because the first 5-6 minutes was full of adverts. From the middle of the match onwards, this was full of twists and turns, with Lana getting involved and the outcome feeling very unpredictable. I’m not a fan of the Nakamura-Rusev alliance losing back-to-back matches, but overall this was very good for a kickoff show match.

Grade: B
