Match 10: The Shield vs. Baron Corbin, Drew McIntyre & Bobby Lashley
Background: One week after announcing that his leukemia is in remission, Roman Reigns reunited The Shield on the latest episode of Raw. The trio stood tall after a brawl with Baron Corbin, Drew McIntyre and Bobby Lashley, setting up a six-man tag at Fastlane. With Dean Ambrose set to leave WWE, this match has been called The Shield’s “last ride” as a trio.
Summary: Ambrose and Seth Rollins were involved early on before Reigns tagged in and got the better of a confrontation with McIntyre. From that moment on, Corbin, McIntyre and Lashley gained control over all three Shield members. Reigns tagged in again and hit some of his signature moves, notably a Drive-By on Corbin. While Reigns and Corbin fought it out in the ring, everybody else continued the battle through the crowd, where Rollins flew from the top of a barrier to take out McIntyre and Lashley. All four guys returned, with Rollins and Ambrose breaking up a pinfall after an End of Days on Reigns. The Shield then Triple Powerbombed McIntyre through an announce desk before hitting several moves on Corbin in the ring. They followed up with another Triple Powerbomb and Reigns pinned Corbin to pick up the win. The show ended with the three Shield members holding out their fists in the middle of the ring.
Verdict: This was the perfect way to reintroduce Reigns and a fitting farewell to The Shield. The match didn’t have as much at stake as some of the other matches on this card, but WWE was definitely right to select it to go on last. It’ll be very interesting to see how Reigns is booked at WrestleMania. Reigns vs. Corbin doesn’t feel big enough. Will we see Reigns vs. Ambrose, built around respect rather than animosity, instead?
