WWE NXT TakeOver: Phoenix took place in Phoenix, Arizona on Saturday, January 26.
Here’s a recap of what happened on the show…
Match 1: The Undisputed Era (Kyle O’Reilly & Roderick Strong) vs. War Raiders (Hanson & Rowe) — NXT Tag Team Championship
Summary: Following a special Viking entrance, War Raiders got off to a dominant start against a shell-shocked Kyle O’Reilly & Roderick Strong, who only began to gain some momentum when Hanson failed to land a dive through the ropes. Hanson turned things around for his team when he tagged back in, using his power and athleticism to take out both Undisputed members. The crowd showed their appreciation with “NXT!” and “This is awesome!” chants as Hanson kicked out of a top-rope knee from O’Reilly and an Angle Slam from Strong. In the end, Hanson cartwheeled his way past his opponents and landed elbows on them both following a handspring against the ropes. Rowe then connected with a powerslam/powerbomb combo and pinned O’Reilly for the 1-2-3 after a double-team from the top rope.
Verdict: As great as Undisputed Era’s title reign has been, now is the right time for War Raiders to take over the NXT tag division. This was another classic TakeOver tag match, with Hanson — and his incredible athletic ability — the star of the show. Where does this leave Undisputed Era? Are they main-roster-bound?!
