The latest episode of WWE Raw took place in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on Monday, March 11. Here is a recap of what happened on the show…
Opening segment: The Shield’s farewell address; Match 1: Seth Rollins vs. Shelton Benjamin
Opening segment: Roman Reigns announced that he will take part in his first singles match in five months on tonight’s episode of Raw. The Shield bid farewell with a fist bump and Seth Rollins remained in the ring to address his match against Brock Lesnar. Paul Heyman quickly interrupted and he was reminded by Rollins how Lesnar almost lost against three men with similar styles to him: AJ Styles, Daniel Bryan and Finn Balor. Heyman began to explain how Lesnar has been in training for Rollins when, out of nowhere, Shelton Benjamin appeared and hit Rollins with three German suplexes.
Match: Benjamin, a former training partner of Lesnar, controlled the early stages. Rollins then turned things around but failed to land a couple of his trademark moves, notably a Stomp. In the end, after reversing an attempted F5 from Benjamin, Rollins finally connected with a Stomp to win the match.
Verdict: Well, this was different. The Shield farewell address was underwhelming, in all honesty, with Reigns doing all the talking before he and Dean Ambrose walked away. The use of Benjamin in this story was smart, even though he’s a SmackDown Live guy (does that even matter these days?!). Overall, a solid but unspectacular start to the show.
