Match 6: Dean Ambrose vs. Drew McIntyre
Pre-match: Drew McIntyre assaulted Roman Reigns before his scheduled match against Baron Corbin. The Scot threw Reigns shoulder-first into the ring post before hitting two Claymores at ringside (the second one against the ring post). Reigns was attended to by a doctor and, with Seth Rollins by his side, he walked to the back to get checked out after mentioning that he had a headache. Ambrose wanted a Falls Count Anywhere match against McIntyre. Triple H then made the match official.
Match: Ambrose and McIntyre immediately fought through the crowd and press area. They then continued the brawl backstage, where Ambrose launched his opponent over a table. McIntyre went on to stick a pencil in Ambrose’s eye on the announce desk before twice launching him head-first into the LED screen. The Scot then trapped his opponent’s head in a railing on the stage and hit a Claymore to get the 1-2-3. The show ended with McIntyre posing on the announce desk before hitting another Claymore on Ambrose on the stage.
Verdict: Very good. It was a little disappointing not to see Reigns compete, but this perfectly sets up Reigns vs. McIntyre at WrestleMania. McIntyre has lost momentum over the last few months and it looked at one stage as if he wouldn’t even have a ‘Mania match. Now he looks certain to be involved in one of the show’s biggest matches.
