Lana landed awkwardly on her ankle during Rusev’s United States Championship defeat to Shinsuke Nakamura on the 2019 WWE Royal Rumble kickoff show.
“The Ravishing Russian” attempted to enter the 30-woman Rumble match at #28 but, with her ankle heavily taped, she could barely walk and officials ruled that she was unable to compete.
Becky Lynch, who earlier lost a SmackDown Women’s Championship match against Asuka, appeared and was given the go-ahead by WWE producer Fit Finlay to enter instead of Lana.
Not only did Lynch go on to enter, but she eliminated Nia Jax and Charlotte Flair to win the match.
Following the event, Lana jokingly took credit for Lynch’s success, writing on Twitter: “Your welcome @WWE Universe! My pain is giving @BeckyLynchWWE the opportunity to go to Wrestlemania. #RoyalRumbe”
