The latest episode of WWE SmackDown Live took place in Charlotte, North Carolina on Tuesday, February 26. Here’s a recap of what happened on the show…

Opening segment: Daniel Bryan & Kofi Kingston contract signing

Summary: After Stephanie McMahon informed eco-friendly WWE champion Daniel Bryan (w/Rowan) he was sitting in a leather chair, she and Shane McMahon ran through Kofi Kingston’s list of accomplishments before welcoming him (w/Big E and Xavier Woods) to the ring. Just as the New Day member was set to sign his contract, Vince McMahon appeared and announced that he will replace Kingston with a man “more deserving and more qualified” to face Bryan: Kevin Owens. Both Owens and Bryan signed their contracts and the segment ended with a face-off across the table. Owens then requested during a backstage discussion that he team up with Kingston against Bryan and Rowan tonight.

Verdict: I did NOT see that coming. If Bryan vs. Owens goes ahead at Fastlane, that presumably means Bryan vs. Kingston will take place at WrestleMania 35, aka KofiMania, instead. As a fan of Owens, it’s a shame that it looks as though he has been taken out of his reported ‘Mania match for the WWE Championship, but we’ll see where the story goes!
