The latest episode of WWE SmackDown Live took place in Dayton, Ohio on Tuesday, March 12. Here is a recap of what happened on the show…
Opening segment: Shane McMahon kicks off SmackDown Live
Summary: With the World Cup trophy by his side in the ring, Shane McMahon received huge “You suck! You suck!” chants before he even said a word. He then called over ring announcer Greg Hamilton, who introduced him as “The Best In The World, Shane McMahon”. Shane threatened Hamilton and made him do it two more times, telling him to “say it like you mean it”. The former SmackDown Commissioner explained that he is sick of helping other people and that’s why he attacked The Miz. He claimed that his actions at Fastlane “lit a spark which will never go out”, adding that he will go one-on-one with Miz at WrestleMania 35.
Verdict: The ring announcer part of this segment was a brilliant way to get fans to turn against Shane (some still cheered during his entrance!). His explanation for the attack seemed less about Miz and more about the people who have expected him to help them out throughout his life, and Miz just proved to be the final straw. This has been one of the best long-term stories in WWE over the last few months. Now let’s get that World Cup trophy on the line at ‘Mania!
