In-ring segment: Randy Orton and AJ Styles
Summary: Randy Orton mentioned how, when he was breaking records and achieving success earlier in his career in WWE, AJ Styles was competing in gymnasiums and “getting a tan with Dixie Carter”. He added that SmackDown is “the house that Randy Orton built”, not Styles. Styles then appeared and said Orton wouldn’t have made it on the indies, adding that his RKO is a ripped-off Diamond Cutter. The two went back-and-forth before Orton reiterated that SmackDown is “his house”, he’s “the landlord” and “rent is due, you son of a b****”. Styles pointed at the WrestleMania sign and asked, “You want your rent, Randy? Well come and take it.”
Verdict: THIS is how you build to a WrestleMania match! The Orton-Styles feud has gone under the radar over the last few weeks, but this promo battle brilliantly set up their match, which isn’t yet official, for WrestleMania. Both guys spoke truths here. Orton probably just won the war of words, but it was close. Check this promo out — it was one of the best of the year.
