The latest episode of WWE SmackDown Live took place in Wilkes-Barre, Pensylvania on Tuesday, March 5. Here is a recap of what happened on the show…
Opening segment: Daniel Bryan
Summary: Daniel Bryan mocked Kofi Kingston after he was removed from the WWE Championship match at Fastlane. He revealed that Kingston will not be on SmackDown, as he is on a promotional tour of India with The New Day, and he went on to describe new challenger Kevin Owens as someone who eats “copious amounts of pancakes”. Bryan and Owens traded insults in a back-and-forth promo before Owens began to attack Rowan. He even attempted a Stunner on Bryan but the numbers game soon caught up with KO, and Bryan and Rowan stood tall to end the segment. It was then announced that Owens and Rowan would go one-on-one later in the show.
Verdict: This wasn’t a bad opening segment — fans are definitely on board with Owens’ face turn — but I feel like WWE missed an opportunity to somehow include more mention of Kingston in Sunday’s match. Even though fans have taken to Owens’ new character, does it really matter if he wins or loses at Fastlane? Not really, because Kingston is their chosen one. Perhaps Owens should’ve mentioned that, if he wins on Sunday, he will give Kingston a shot at the title — at least then fans would be rooting more for KO.
